Polar Bear
THE MYSTERY THAT IS ME
I am mysterious.
See the snowbank in the distance?
If it moves, it might be me.
I am a sorcerer in the snow.
I can completely disappear
into the glistening white terrain
of my Artic homeland.
I am one of the largest land omnivores walking this Earth
And yet I am considered a marine animal, Ursus Maritimas,
Capable of continuously swimming the cold sea
for days on end.
My dark, marveling eyes absorb the lights
Of the Aurora Borealis,
As I find quiet pleasure in pathless walks
Along lonely shores.
Solitude is delicious,
And I find comfort in silence.
In the solitude, I discover the mystery of me,
The richness that
Shows itself
Most clearly
In the vast emptiness
That surrounds me.
And I have learned
That I can never be lonely
When I like
The one
I am with.
